Alasdair’s Doubts

This is a snippet from The Ancient, in which Alasdair is preparing for his bonding with Edgar, but he is afraid…

Alasdair drifted through the silent house. All this, everything that he had seen and done, all his memories for the past ten thousand years came into his mind like a moving picture on fast forward.  Was this what humans experienced when they were ready to die?  Seeing their meager images and memories parading before them? He wasn’t sure.  He was trying very hard to leave their fates in the hands of the Mother, but–he was afraid.

  4. Oh how lovely, thank you so much ❤ He makes me wonder just what humans think about with their life spans of a hundred years or so, as opposed to someone like Alasdair who has so much stored to think about–

  8. What a gorgeous cover! And Alasdair’s anxiety comes across very well, even though I don’t know (yet) what he’s afraid of. Somehow, that makes it more powerful.

  16. Well, of course it’s a vampire bonding which is much more intense and dare I say final, than a mere turning, but Edgar is a halfling, having been kept alive by Alasdair for almost a hundred years, so he doesn’t know how this will affect the process. I do describe the bonding in the book, however 🙂
